When travelling, things don’t always go to plan and it can sometimes be unclear which is the safest route in order to protect your personal safety.

When developing the Horus-I app, the Horus development team focused on how to instantly notify the security experts in the Control Room with a user which is in a situation where additional support is needed.

As a result, the team developed the ‘Watch Me Closely’ feature – unique to the Horus-I appactivating the WMC feature will instantly alert the WatchKeeper’s in the Control Room to increase monitoring of an individual as well as make direct contact via the Advice Centre to offer the individual advice in uncertain situations.

How it works

This enhanced check-in feature is activated by pressing the eye at the bottom of the dashboard. From the moment the eye is pressed, both the user and the WatchKeeper on duty in the Control Room receives an alert notifying theme that WMC is activated. The WatchKeeper then sends an instant message to the user to ask if they are safe and if they require additional assistance

With WMC activated, the number of location data points transmitted from the user’s device to the Control Room increases so the WatchKeeper can see a highly accurate view of the user’s movement. Once the user is safe and no longer requires help from the Control Room, the WatchKeeper will ask the user if they are safe and to then deactivate WMC.

When would WatchMeClosely be used?

A safety net in times of uncertainty

Solo travelling can be very rewarding, however, there are times when travellers are in some uncertain situations and are left feeling isolated from people that could help. The Horus-I app offers the most up-to-date security information for travellers with 24/7 support and travel advice for times when they may feel unsafe.

Situation Example:

Kiaya is an international student undertaking a year-abroad at London. She had only been in London for a few days and was about to travel to a lecture at one of the university buildings. Prior to leaving, she received a travel alert on the Horus-I app stating there is a near-by Security and Crime incident which resulted in the road being closed off. The closure meant Kiaya had to change her route to the university and was unsure which way was best to avoid the area of the incident. Therefore, she used the Advice Centre to ask which was the safest route, the WatchKeeper on duty, Freya, sent an alternative route and requested Kiaya to turn on her WMC in order to monitor her journey around the incident. Once Kiaya recognised she was clear of the incident and close to her university building, she told Freya she felt safe continuing the journey and deactivated the WMC.

For business travellers an organisations

Horus understands that each business is unique, therefore the Horus-I app has been custom built with this in mind. Our in-house research and development team built the app to be fully customisable to fit the requirements of any business, from global corporations to individual clients in various sectors around the world.

Situation Example:

Andrew travelled to Lisbon, Portugal for a business trip. He had never been to Lisbon before and was unfamiliar with the language. As Andrew was unaware of how the local public transport systems worked, he decided to take a taxi to his accommodation provided by his company. Prior to getting into the taxi, Andrew activated the WMC feature. Moments later the Horus WatchKeeper on duty, Daniel, sends a message to Andrew via the Advice Centre to ask if he required additional assistance. Andrew explained he would like the Control Centre to monitor his journey to the accommodation as he struggled to access a map and was unsure of the route. The WMC feature increases the number of location data points being transmitted from Andrew’s phone to the Control Centre, this enabled Daniel to closely monitor Andrew’s movement to confirm that he arrived at the accommodation safely. Once Andrew safely arrived, Daniel checked on Andrew’s wellbeing and asks him to deactivate the WMC.
